Funemployment Itinerary
Because a gal can only scroll LinkedIn for so long
I always say, working in start-ups has high-highs and low-lows—the frequency of layoffs being one of ‘em. Yes, that’s right, I’m back on the job market after my third layoff this past week.
Layoffs aren’t personal, but it sure does feel like it when your job, the one that takes up 40+ hours of brain space a week; and your coworkers, who you giggle and gossip with on Google Meets; and your actual work, which you take immense pride in because you can’t help it, is simply “eliminated.”
While I’ve been cycling through feelings of panic and relief, hope and hopelessness, I find comfort in that I’ve been here before and live to tell the tale. It’s a sign from the universe, I say when I’m feeling woo-woo.
Because there’s only so much LinkedIn searching and networking a gal can do, I’ve started a list of other ways to fill my time during this unknown period of time, alongside moving, which I also have to do this week when I return from my trip home to Chicago. (Shoutout to my Saturn return for this wealth of change.)
What would you do if your days were more open than ever?
What museums or shows or bakeries or workout classes would you try?
What would you do that you can’t when you’re nine-to-fivin’?
This past Thursday, for example, my mom and I got cannolis from a new-to-us bakery, then went to see a matinee showing of “Devil Wears Prada 2.” No Slack huddles in sight.

Our landlord sold our apartment in our co-op and, despite looking up what “squatter’s rights” entails more than once, a move is most certainly impending.
The Best of April
Now that I’ve been doing this for a year-plus, it’s fun to look back to what I was pressing PUBLISH on last year at this time. Apparently I was in a very shoppy mood.
