A Summer Bucket List
Because adults should HAGS!!!!!!, too.
It’s the last day of sixth grade. You’re in head-to-toe Abercrombie, signing yearbook after yearbook with “HAGS!!!!!!” Once released, you run home, neighbor-friend in tow, to draft your respective summer bucket lists.
This list was it: the official start to summer, as decreed in alternating Crayola markers and taped to your closet door.
Actually crossing items off on the list was never the point, though. The joy was in the creation. The anticipation of what was to come and the thrill of making HAGS happen.
I know we’ve been declaring it summer since the calendar flipped to June but, astrologically speaking, summer starts with Friday’s solstice, which left me time to establish my summer ‘25 list. And that I did.
Even without friendship bracelets and tie-dye as hot-ticket items, I found that creating it accomplished what it once had, each bullet a reminder to take joy into my own hands and make the most of the months ahead.
